Raising the bar on non-executive leadership
The Institute is a resource for the chairman. It is guided by the belief that good business requires good board leadership and that the chairman is key to the success of the board. The Institute equips the chairman to maintain optimum board effectiveness. Beyond routine corporate governance it is particularly focused on boardroom behavior and collaborating with the chairman to optimize the personality dynamics of the board.
THE IMPACT OF PERSONALITY ON LEADERSHIP
The impact of personality on corporate leadership is much under-estimated. Many recent company failures and CEO departures have been ascribed to differences of opinion between the board and the CEO or poor decision-making by the CEO and lack of leadership skill. WHAT WE DO
Membership of the Institute is open to chairmen of listed companies who are asked to be
available for confidential counsel to other chairmen members facing particular challenges that may not be for open discussion. The Institute believes that the skills and insights of experienced
board members are invaluable and can bring new perspectives to those that are facing particular challenges, especially when personality issues are at stake.

CAPSTONE REPORT
The purpose of the Capstone Report is to give the chairman an important tool with which to manage the board more effectively. The personality and behavioral issues which tend to be below the surface, can cause disruption and even destruction of value. In collaboration with the chairmen potential personality disruptors are discussed. They form the basis of the questions to be put to key board members who will engage in structured exploratory conversations.The results of these discussions are evaluated identifying any significant themes which are to be detailed in the report.
